Actor, author and film director, (b. 20 May 1965)
Philippe “Bouli” Lanners is a Belgian actor, scriptwriter and director. He was born on 20 May 1965 at Moresnet-Chapelle in the Eastern Cantons of Belgium, where his father was a Customs officer patrolling the “three frontiers”. Philippe is also known as a painter and interior designer, and also works under the name “DJ Mauvais”. He currently lives on a barge on the Ourthe Canal at Liège. Hired by the Canal+ Belgique television channel as a director on the satirical programme “Les Snuls”, he went on to appear in sketches as an actor, leading to many supporting roles in Belgian, French and Belgo-French films. He wrote his first screenplay ten years ago and has also directed films. His first full-length film as director, “Ultranova” was premiered in 2005, and his second “Eldorado” in the summer of 2007. “Eldorado” (see http://eldorado-lefilm.com) was selected for showing in the Directors’ Fortnight at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, where it won for Lanners the Europa Cinemas “Regards Jeunes” Prize for the critics’ choice of Best European Film, and the Award given by Fipresci, the International Federation of Film Journalists.
