Light is an integral part of our lives, indoors and outdoors. It shapes things, emphasises or hides them. Light is the principal “material” used by this young Brussels-born designer. She loves harmonious blends of natural and artificial light, creating a sort of primordial balance, accompanying each other by day and by night, responding to each other and completing each other. When one is lit, the other is extinguished. Her respect for natural light has led her to design ambiance lighting systems. Movement is an important element of her work: lights moving in spaces change our perceptions. Light, like life, is constantly moving. We can also discover a plant-like side to her lamps, between the earth and the sky, like Eve, with Giant Hogweed (Heracleum) and its huge white halo-like seed-heads inspiring “Lelustre”, and giant grasses swaying in the wind, coronas and sudden eclipses inspiring “LaPlic”. Her lamps are flexible yet strong and they can fall asleep in the evening and wake up slowly in the morning with the aid of a gentle electronic dimmer. If, on returning home, your eye notices the lamp because it adds something to your daily life, then she has succeeded in her task. Her designs are like presents offered to the whole earth which say “take this object and it will be all right, and if it’s already all right, it will be even better”.
