Philippe Geluck

 Cartoonist (b1954)

Philippe Geluck was born in Brussels and began his career as a stage actor at the French-language Théâtre National de Belgique in Brussels. From 1978 onwards, he presented witty revues for the Belgian francophone television broadcaster RTBF. In 1983, he drew his first Le Chat cartoon for Le Soir, the leading Belgian francophone daily newspaper, where it has appeared ever since. These cartoons have been collected into 25 albums. The success of Le Chat led to more television appearances as a panel member : in Belgium La semaine infernale and Le jeu des dictionnaires, presented by Jacques Mercier, and in France Vivement dimanche prochain presented by Michel Drucker and On va s’gêner and On a tout essayé presented by Laurent Ruquier. In all of these live discussion-and-interview programmes, Geluck’s ready wit, humour and ability with words has made him a very popular television personality. He has licensed the Le Chat brand to manufacturers of stationery, biscuits and chocolate.
